| Rachel Carter
(Lucy) has been self-employed for a number of years as an actor and
is a notable presence in the emerging independent film scene in Central Florida.
Rachel has a solid theatre background with roles in The Cherry Orchard,
Danny and the Deep Blue Sea, Picnic and others. Rachel
now resides in New York and frequently crosses the country touring with the
Wella dance team. Thomas Atkins (Bert) was born in Mobile, Alabama, and educated at Duke University, and the Yale School of Drama. He was so convincing in his role in Night Orchid that crew members mistook him for a local small-town onlooker interrupting the set. Atkins' feature roles include Blaze with Paul Newman. He is a playwright and an author, and is co-creator of the critically praised magazine The Film Journal. His books include a novel, The Blue Man and The Fire Came By, an account of the 1908 Siberian Explosion, and several film titles in Simon & Schuster's Monarch Film Series. The late John D. MacDonald selected The Blue Man as one of his seven personal choices for top novels of 1977. In an article for The Chicago Tribune, MacDonald described these seven as "...each and every one, compelling, tough-minded, suspenseful, and written by people with respect for the language." Atkins wrote the narration for the Emmy Award-Winning National Geographic Specials Hawaii: Strangers in Paradise and Great White Shark as well as for Nature/Partridge Films documentary Cold Water, Warm Heart: A Sea Otters Story. A theatre educator, Atkins has been in past years the chairman, and artistic director of three theatre departments: at Hollins College, VA; the University of New Orleans, and at Florida Atlantic University, where he is presently Professor of Theatre. Another
member of Night Orchids Yale Drama School triumvirate is S. Joseph
Nassif (Able). Joe, Mary Ellen and Tom all went to Yale together and
performed in plays. Night Orchid reunited the three. After serving
as the Executive Producer/Director of the Pittsburgh Playhouse Center for
the Performing Arts, and Executive Producer of the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre,
Nassif is currently head of the Drama Department at Rollins College in Winter
Park, Florida. He was recently elected to the National Theatre Conference,
one of under 100 professional theatre practitioners to have attained membership
in this honorary society. |
